MONDAY, 12 JANUARY 2004 (14:00 - 17:00)
KRAMER BUILDING, UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN
South Africa is bidding to host the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) in the Northern Cape. The Government, through the Department Science and Technology and the Department of Trade and Industry, is very keen to involve SA industry and universities in the development of the high-level technologies and mass manufacturing methods, which will be necessary for the telescope.
The International Steering Committee of the SKA will hold its next meeting in Cape Town from 12 to 16 January 2004. The Committee has agreed to host a workshop with South African industry and universities to give information on opportunities for technology and research development partnerships. This workshop will also present an opportunity for SA Industry and Universities to convey to the International Steering Committee the excellent track record and capacity for the delivery of this mega project.
I would like to invite interested industry leaders and researchers on behalf of the SA Steering Committee of the SKA to attend this workshop and to participate in the discussions. The SKA presents an opportunity for SA industry and universities to get involved in the cutting edge innovative technology developments.
