Main Requirements

The main requirements and goals of the NCCS is :

DEVELOP A NEW CONTROL SYSTEM FOR THE 26M HARTEBEESTHOEK TELESCOPE TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE EXISTING SYSTEM (HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE) RUNNING ON THE HP 1000 COMPUTERS,

THE NEW SYSTEM MUST OPERATE THE TELESCOPE AND RELATED HARDWARE IN A STABLE AND RELIABLE MANNER.

The aim of this is to be able to switch off the HP 1000s and forget about them. These goals must be achieved in the first version of the NCCS. Any other requirements such as extending remote control to more hardware or improving the control system are secondary to these requirements.
